Flow of drugs from Afghanistan expected in Kazakhstan

The increase in drug trafficking from Afghanistan is expected in Kazakhstan in connection with the opening of mountain passes.

The Kazakh special services are ready for this and will be cooperating in the fight against drug trafficking with their CIS, Western European and US counterparts, a spokesman for the Kazakh National Security Committee, Berik Oshakbayev, told journalists.

Drugs are expected to be supplied, first of all, through western Kazakhstan.

Alma Ata's special services have withdrawn 14 kilograms of heroine over the first six months of 2002. All in all, 207 kilograms of heroine have been confiscated in the city over the last ten years.
