NATO supports Ukraine's intention to join Alliance

NATO supports Ukraine's intention to join the North-Atlantic Alliance, NATO Secretary-General George Robertson told a press conference in Kiev on Tuesday, following a special meeting of the Ukraine-NATO commission.

The meeting was devoted to the 5th anniversary of the signing of the Charter on the special partnership between Ukraine and the North-Atlantic Alliance and focused on the prospects for further development of cooperation with NATO.

Ukraine should ensure observation of human rights and liberties and principles of the superiority of the law on its way to NATO, George Robertson stressed. Robertson also pointed to the necessity of ratification by the parliament of the agreement on security between Ukraine and NATO. The absence of this agreement hampers proper development of relations between Ukraine and the Alliance.
