Armenian Premier gives evidence at trial of terrorists on "October, 27" case

Terrorists, who attacked the Armenian parliament on October 27, 1999, deserve the most severe punishment for the crime against statehood, Armenian Prime Minister Andranik Markaryan announced, giving evidence at the trial of terrorists who had shot down a number of Armenian high-rank officials inside the parliament. "Let them not think that they are the salvation of the nation. The bastards will not even have a grave to lie in," the premier said. Markaryan regarded the terrorists' allegation that 99% of the Armenians supported their action as absurd.

On October 27, 1999, five armed terrorists, headed by Nairy Unanyan, broke into the building of Armenia's National Assembly, shot down Prime minister Vazgen Sarkisyan, Speaker Karen Demirchyan, both vice speakers, three MPs and a minister. After holding deputies and several ministers for the whole night, they capitulated in the morning of October, 28. In March 2001 proceedings started against them.
