Upper chamber speaker of Russian parliament intends to discuss Kaliningrad region problem in Poland

Sergei Mironov, Federation Council speaker, will visit Poland on August 28-30. He intends to visit Warsaw and Gdansk, meet with the country's President Kwasniewski, its Prime Minister and the speakers of both chambers of the Polish Parliament. Journalists learned this on Friday from Chairman of the Polish Senate Longin Pastusiak.

Sergei Mironov told journalists that during his visit he intends to "get down to discussing with all sides the problem of the Kaliningrad region (a Russian enclave on the Baltic Sea)." According to the chairman of the Polish Senate, his country sees "the introduction of multiple visas that will be very cheap and easily issued as the only means for Russian citizens to transit through Poland's territory." The procedure of the issue of these visas should be coordinated between the European Union and Russia, rather than between Poland, Lithuania and Russia, he noted.

Longin Pastusiak said he was confident that the Kaliningrad problem which is arising with the enlargement of the European Union and the Schengen zone, correspondingly, "will be settled with due account for the interests of all sides."
