Head of Russian Foreign Ministry and OSCE Chairman to discuss issue of Kaliningrad region

Igor Ivanov, Russian Foreign Minister, and Antonio Martins da Cruz, OSCE Chairman-in-Office, and Foreign Minister of Portugal, intend to meet to discuss the problem of the Kaliningrad Region. The meeting will be held in Moscow on June 28.

Alexander Yakovenko, official spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, declared in a RIA Novosti interview, that that problem arouses particular interest in the context of the OSCE countries' commitments under the Helsinki Final Act.

Apart from that, Moscow is interested in developing the OSCE's peacemaking potential and in raising the efficiency of its economic work. Russia is also for developing cooperation with the OSCE in the protection of the rights of national minorities, including ensuring the rights of the Russian-speaking population in Latvia and Estonia, said the Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman.
