Russian fighters to boost India's air force combativity

The Indian air force will get a considerable air advantage with the beginning of shipments of the latest modifications of the Russian multipurpose fighters Su-30MKI, says an article carried by the leading economic daily The Economic Times.

It writes that Russian-made two-seater multipurpose fighters having perfect performances and combat characteristics in the world will greatly increase the fighting capacity of the Indian air force in the next 20 years.

Two Russian fighters of the first batch of ten Su-30MKI have already entered the air force inventories. The rest will arrive before the year end.

According to this newspaper, the Aviation Industrial Association, based in Irkutsk in the south of East Siberia, will supply another twenty two Su-30MKI fighters next year.

Simultaneously, a factory of the state-run Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. in Bangalore, capital of the southern state Karnataka, is arranging license manufacture of 140 fighters, intended for 15 years.

Signed on December 28, 2000, the contract for the supply of finished Russian fighters and their manufacture in India is estimated at 3.3 billion dollars.
