Russia-China political relations to be complemented by economic cooperation -- Moscow Mayor

Political relations between Russia and China should be complemented by economic cooperation, Moscow mayor Yuri Luzhkov said at a meeting, Monday, with Li Changchong, a member of the political bureau of the central committee of the Chinese Communist Party and secretary of the party committee of the Guangdong province.

Luzhkov said that "a formidable level of interaction and trustworthy relations has been established" between the two countries. "Political interstate contacts are far ahead of economic cooperation", he believes. Economic contacts between our states are, so far, "boiling down to trade initiatives of certain businessmen." Luzhkov stressed that Russia and China must arrange active economic contacts at the interregional level, stressed the mayor.

"We are satisfied with the pace of development of Russian-Chinese /political/ relations, but there are very many other areas of mutual interest", stressed the Moscow mayor.
