Warsaw interested in settling problem of trade balance shortage with Russia

Warsaw is interested in settling the problem of trade balance shortage between Russia and Poland at the expense of investment projects, first of all to the Kaliningrad region (Russia's enclave in Western Europe), said Russia's Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov at a press conference following his visit to the Polish capital.

A number of Polish companies have already claimed their interest in making their investments to the region, Ivanov said.

The trade balance shortage between Russia and Poland equals more than three billion dollars, Ivanov recalled. "This is a big figure that influences the development of economic relationship," he noted. This deficit was caused by Russian energy carriers deliveries to Poland, and Poland suggests that the problem should be solved by increasing deliveries of Polish goods to the Russian market and by making investments.

The trade balance shortage problem was discussed at a meeting of the Committee on Russia-Poland relations strategy issues in Warsaw. The Committee is supposed to decide a number of long-term questions concerning Russian-Polish cooperation. Russian gas deliveries to Poland and its transit through that country's territory to Western Europe will be on the agenda of the meeting.
