Russia, US coordinate their efforts to settle Mideast situation -- Igor Ivanov

Despite the active and untiring efforts made by Russia and the United States in the Middle East, "the desirable result has not yet been reached," said Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov after negotiations with his Slovak opposite number Eduard Kukan.

Igor Ivanov said that Russia and the United States have been coordinating their efforts to settle the situation in the Middle Eastern region and also act in close interaction with the United Nations and the European Union.

Still, "we cherish the hope that our efforts will be crowned with success for the good of the people in this region," said the Russian foreign minister.

He stressed that the position of Russia towards terrorist acts remains as it used to be: "Russia as before condemns whatever acts of terrorism." They will only complicate the grave situation in the Middle East, said Igor Ivanov.
