EU charged its committee with seeking an acceptable solution to the Kaliningrad problem

The Council of Ministers of the European Union, which had a session in Luxembourg on Monday, has charged the committee of permanent representatives of the member-countries of the European Union and the European Commission with working over the search for a acceptable solution of the Kaliningrad problem, says the resolution of the EU Council.

The document points out that the ministers asked the permanent representatives and commission to continue appropriate efforts, following the joint statement of the Russia-EU summit and also proceeding from the strategic cooperation between the European Union and the Russian Federation.

This work is necessary in connection with the situation concerning the Kaliningrad region after the expansion of the European Union, says the resolution of the EU Council, but especially in connection with the problem which arises for the movement and transit of cargoes and people between this region and the rest of the Russian territory.

The Foreign Ministers recommended Brussels to look for a solution "in close cooperation with Lithuania and Poland, taking into consideration the legal and practical consequences of the expansion of the European Union."
