A Swedish parliamentarian: The Kaliningrad problem should be solved in a political way

The solution of the problem of the Kaliningrad region should be found through political ways. This opinion was expressed by chairman of the international committee of the parliament (Riksdag) of the Kingdom of Sweden Urban Alin at the meeting with the head of the Russian State Duma (Lower House), Gennady Seleznev.

According to the Swedish parliamentarian, it is necessary to ease as much as possible daily contacts of the inhabitants of the region with the rest of Russia." In his turn, Gennady Seleznev, who had raised this theme, emphasised that for the Russian parliamentarians, who take part in international parliamentary organisations, "the problem of the Kaliningrad region is now the main one." The Chairman of the Russian Lower House also expressed satisfaction with "the good level of the development of the inter-parliamentary and inter-governmental contacts between Russia and Sweden." Speaking about the increasing of trade between the two states, Gennady Seleznev expressed the hope that "the development of direct contacts between the provinces of Sweden and the subjects of the Russian Federation will keep this tradition." As the press service of the State Duma reported, the participants in the meeting also discussed the issues connected with the prospect of creating the axis of regional cooperation along the line of Helsinki - Saint Petersburg - Tallinn - Stockholm.
