An inventory of the sunk ships of the Pacific Fleet has started, president of the marine ecological fund under the administration of the Maritime Territory Yuri Leontiev said on Monday.
The work to raise and utilize the sunk warships is being done within the framework of an international ecological programme for ensuring radiation security of the environment. As Yuri Leontiev said, the financial resources for implementing this programme ($65 million) were allocated by the secret services of the USA and Norway.
The study of the sea depths in Chalma Bay and in the coastal zone of the town of Bolshoi Kamen has already been completed. On the whole, the inventory will last two months. There are at least twenty sunk warships in Zolotoi Rog, Diomid and Uliss bays of Vladivostok.
By the preliminary calculations, it will take about four years to completely destroy the "cemeteries" of warships in the Maritime Territory.
