U.S. likely to tie aid for Yugoslavia to cooperation with Hague Tribunal

As he met Friday with President of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia Vojislav Kostunica, U.S. State Department Ambassador-at-Large for War Crimes Issues Pierre-Richard Prosper announced that the United States may again place conditions on its financial assistance to Yugoslavia.

Appropriate laws may be adopted by U.S. Congress in the fall of 2002, Prosper said. According to the State Department Ambassador-at-Large, one of the conditions on U.S. financial aid for Yugoslavia may be that country's cooperativeness with international organizations, such as the Hague War Crimes Tribunal.
