US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs visits Uzbekistan

US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Linn Pasco has arrived in Uzbekistan to pay a visit from June 14 to 16, reported the American Embassy in Tashkent on Friday.

The programme of his visit provides for his meeting with a number of officials from the government of Uzbekistan as well as with Secretary of the Uzbek National Security Council Mirakbar Rakhmankulov and with Chairman of the Moslem Board of Uzbekistan Mufti Abdurashid Bakhramov.

Linn Pasco has already met with Uzbek Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov. The sides exchanged views on the issues concerning security and the situation in Central Asia and in neighbouring Afghanistan. Another topic of the discussion was further development of bilateral cooperation.

Linn Pasco also plans to meet with a group of human rights champions of Uzbekistan and to visit the Khanabad base of the military contingent of the United States.

According to Linn Pasco, the scale of interaction between the USA and Uzbekistan has broadened as a result of a close cooperation in the fight against terrorism.

The United States is very much interested in cooperation with Uzbekistan, Linn Pasco told reporters on Friday. We are expanding our cooperation in all spheres and at all levels, he added.
