Remote-controlled submarine vehicles examine Kursk's fragments

Fragments, which are to be salvaged during an operation to salvage the first compartment of the Kursk nuclear submarine, are examined by means of the RTM-500 and Rapan remote-controlled submarine vehicles. This information was disclosed on Thursday by Igor Dygalo, Aide to the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy.

The salvage operation involves the Mikhail Rudnitsky and the Altai vessels of the Russian Northern Fleet, which constitute the Special Naval Operation /SNO/. According to the press service of the Russian Navy, weather conditions in the operation zone are favourable: there are force-two waves, wind speed - 3-8 mps, water temperature - 5 degrees, 4-7 tenths cloud.

All data concerning the progress of the operation is being sent to the SNO headquarters and Admiral Gennady Suchkov, the Commander of the Northern Fleet. Besides, the Commander regularly visits the operation zone to control personally the progress of deep water works.

According to the press service, the Admiral is expected in the area on Thursday.
