Interpol satellite communication control centre to be established in Russia

Russia will be the first country in which a control centre of the Interpol satellite communication channel with developed infrastructure will start operating. An accord to this effect was attained at the talks of Minister of the Interior of Russia Boris Gryzlov and Secretary-General of the international criminal police organisation Ronald Kenneth Noble.

According to Gryzlov, this system will make it possible to promptly transmit both textual information and video pictures. The system, in particular, makes it possible to promptly obtain photographs of criminals, the data of fingerprint identification expert examination and other indispensable parts of investigation.

As Interpol head Noble said, already next week a group of specialists will arrive in Russia to assemble a satellite communication system.

Some aspects of the NERO programme (the struggle against the trafficking of highly-refined heroin to European countries from Afghanistan through Tajikistan) were also discussed at the talks.
