Russia observes schedule envisaged by programme for destruction of chemical weapons

Russia observes the schedule envisaged by the programme for destruction of chemical weapons, plenipotentiary representative of the president of Russia in the Volga federal district and chairman of the state commission on chemical disarmament Sergei Kiriyenko said at a press conference on Wednesday.

According to him, the set tasks are being fulfilled even a little ahead of schedule.

Kiriyenko expressed confidence that the enterprise for destruction of chemical weapons at Gornyi settlement of the Saratov Region will begin its work, as it was planned, this August.

The chairman of the state commission on chemical disarmament plans to hold its visiting session at Gornyi on Thursday. Its purpose is to see on the spot the state of affairs with the construction of the plant.

As Kiriyenko said, the programme for destruction of chemical weapons lasts till 2012. Its cost is over 3 billion dollars, and it is presumed that about 2 billion of this sum will be allocated from the federal budget.
