Commonwealth's antiterrorist centre to be located in Kyrgyz capital

Kyrgyz President Askar Akayev set forth proposals on coordinating the activities of a number of Bishkek's (Kyrgyzstan's capital) regional structures to Russian Security Council Secretary Vladimir Rushailo on Tuesday, Vladimir Rushailo announced in the wake of two meetings with the Kyrgyz head of state.

Bishkek will accommodate the Antiterrorist Centre /ATC/ of the Commonwealth of Independent States /CIS/, the Collective Security Treaty member countries' rapid deployment forces, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization's future ATC.

Rushailo called the issue of coordinating the activities of the structures, their financing and cooperating "quite urgent". According to him, an agreement on creating a permanent working group in Bishkek was reached at the bilateral meetings between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Askar Akayev in the course of recent summits in Alma-Ata (Kazakhstan's former capital) and St.Petersburg.
