Shanghai Cooperation Organisation leaders to sign important documents in St. Petersburg

The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation leaders will sign several important international-legal documents at the summit in St. Petersburg on June 7. (The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation includes Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan).

First of all, they will sign the Charter - the basic regulations of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, Russian Foreign Ministry's official spokesman Alexander Yakovenko told RIA Novosti on Thursday.

According to him, it will provide an international-legal basis of the organisation.

In addition, the leaders are to sign the Agreement on the Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation. The establishment of the structure is stipulated in the Shanghai Convention on the Fight against Terrorism, Separatism and Extremism. The regional anti-terrorist structure will be the first permanent body of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, created by means of an agreement. "Thus the member states show their readiness to consolidate cooperation on the liquidation of these threats," Yakovenko said.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation heads of state are also expected to sign a political declaration, the Russian Foreign Ministry's official spokesman added.

The signing of the Charter of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation and other documents will complete the process of its formation as a full-scale international organisation, Yakovenko noted.
