Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov and US Secretary of State Colin Powell discussed the current Indian-Pakistani relations over the telephone, the Russian Foreign Ministry's press and information department said on Thursday.
They discussed this problem in the light of the recent meetings between Russian President Vladimir Putin, Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf as part of the summit in Alma Ata.
Ivanov and Powell pointed out that "both sides are inclined to the political settlement of the conflict and are interested in the resumption of direct bilateral contacts".
Igor Ivanov and Colin Powell also discussed other international and bilateral issues of Russian-US agenda.
