To create conditions for India-Pakistan dialogue is world community's task

Russia's foreign ministry has called on the world community to create conditions for a dialogue between India and Pakistan.

Russia is ready to play an active role in fulfilling this task, said the ministry's official spokesman Alexander Yakovenko.

He recalled the meetings that the Russian party had held with the Indian and Pakistani leaders, but stressed that it was difficult to settle the conflict between the two countries "during occasional meetings".

The important result of the Alma-Ata summit on cooperation and confidence-building measures in Asia was "sending once again a top level signal to the Indian and Pakistani parties" about "the extreme anxiety over the conflict between India and Pakistan" both in Russia and in the world community, Yakovenko said.

Moscow believes "the signal has been understood", he said, adding that Pakistan and India expressed their clear unwillingness to resort to military ways of ending the confrontation.
