Director-General of Israel's Foreign Ministry to focus on Middle East issues at Moscow negotiations

The Middle East problems will be priorities at the coming negotiations of Director-General of the Israeli Foreign Ministry Avi Gil in Moscow, Russian official spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry Alexander Yakovenko said in a RIA Novosti interview on Tuesday.

According to the diplomat, Moscow attaches great importance to the activity of a Russo-Israeli working committee on the Middle East, which was once established as part of cooperation between the foreign ministries of the two countries. Avi Gil is the Israeli co-chairman of the committee, while Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Alexander Saltanov in charge of the Middle East Affairs is the Russian co-chairman.

The Foreign Ministry official spokesman stated that Russia was proceeding from the fact that the regional developments could only be normalised "provided prospects for a political settlement remain." The diplomat stated that Russia was advocating parallel advance in three main directions, namely security issues resolution, including the prevention of terror acts; the resumption of political negotiations and the improvement of the social and economic situation in Palestinian territories.
