Indian Premier Atal Bihari Vajpayee in Kazakhstan

India and Kazakhstan have common views on international and regional issues, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev told a press conference, following the talks with Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

The Indian Premier arrived in Alma Ata to take part in the Conference for Cooperation and Trust Building Measures in Asia.

According to Nazarbayev, "we support the fight against terrorism and extremism." "India's participation in the summit of Central Asian states will raise its importance," he added.

Speaking about bilateral economic cooperation, Nazarbayev pointed out that Astana was interested in the development of its four trends: the cooperation in military-technical, oil and gas, pharmaceutical spheres and the sphere of information technologies.

Atal Bihari Vajpayee said that India was ready to invest into Kazakhstan's oil and gas industry, as it did last year with Russia's oil field in Sakhalin.

The Indian Prime Minister pointed to great untapped possibilities in Indian-Kazakh relations.
