Russian police officer becomes Miss Universe

A Russian Oksana Fyodorova has won the prestigious beauty pageant Miss Universe which finished on Wednesday in San Juan, the capital of Puerto Rico island.

Oksana, a 24-year-old resident of St.Petersburg, was voted the most beautiful girl in the world among rivals from 74 countries.

Fyodorova was given prizes for a total of some $250,000, a few contracts and will be able to attend a free two-year course at the New York Film Academy. In addition, for one year she will live in an elite flat of New York for free and receive a high salary.

Oksana was born in Pskov (an old town in north-western Russia). She acknowledges that she has always dreamt of living a beautiful life. Oksana is an only child. She lived with her parents till she was 18, when she decided to lead an independent life and went to Petersburg at the age of 21. Oksana finished a police school there, worked as an investigator for some time and then became a post-graduate student.

According to the mass media reports, she is writing a thesis on civil law.

In 1999 the girl won the Miss St. Petersburg beauty pageant. In 2001 senior police lieutenant Oksana Fyodorova became Miss Russia. She was presented with a Mercedes and a Cartier watch made of white gold. Now Oksana is Miss Universe.
