South Africa : Minister declares war on crime

South Africa’s Minister for Safety and Protection, Charles Nqakula, is to reopen a million criminal investigation processes in a new war against crime.

Nqakula declared war on the feeling of impunity with which criminals treat the justice system in South Africa and declared that “The criminals who are very comfortable, believing that the crimes they committed will never be discovered, are soon to have a surprise. We guarantee that whoever has committed a crime in this country will have to assume the responsibility of his acts”.

The Minister, who took office recently, also stated that 30,000 new police agents will be admitted into the force, over the forthcoming three years, and a further 1,000 civilians will be admitted to perform administrative work.
