Chili's President Ricardi Lagos to visit Russia in 2002

Chili's President Ricardo Lagos will pay an official visit to Russia in 2002, ex-president, senator Ricardo Frei, told RIA Novosti. According to Frei, currently on a private visit to Moscow, Russian and Chilean diplomats are coordinating the dates of the visit. The ex-president believes that the development of overall cooperation with Russia is of particular importance for Chili. According to Frei, it will be the key issue of Ricardo Lagos's forthcoming visit to Moscow. Frei considers that Russia and Chili have all possibilities for improving the current relations and restore the 1990s level of trade turnover - 200 million dollars. In addition, Russia and Chili can cooperate in scientific-technical sphere, for instance, as part of the programme on the development of science in the next millennium, the ex-president said. Russia can render great assistance to Chili on this problem, he added. The same concerns cooperation in the sphere of education, Frei said.
