It’s bread without a crust

After the smokeless cigarette, petrol without lead and beer without alcohol, it’s the loaf of bread without a crust.

The American group Sara Lee have announced that they are to make a new type of bread, without a crust. the company stated that American children have been asking for this type of bread for some time, so that they do not have to cut off, or chew, the crust.

Sara Lee guarantees that nutritional elements will be taken into account “giving the children what they need, but not what they don’t want”.

Recent studies indicate that 40% of American children pull the crusts off their sandwiches.

In other parts of the world, the crust of the bread is considered as the best, most substantial, part, fought over at dinner tables to dip furtively into the soup.

Statistics point towards the fact that the high-fat, high-protein American diet is one of the most unhealthy in the world. Giving children what they want would reduce diets in the USA and western Europe to hamburgers, pizzas, hot dogs and other fast food, packed full of chemicals.

Next there will be soup without vegetables and a diet of chocolate and chips, brimming with all the vitamins and minerals that the nutritionists consider healthy for children.

What next? The neighbour-friendly dog without a bark, unpaid work and free internet? Or what about the slime-less slug, the quack-less duck or odourless dog’s muck?
