Russia-U.S. summit documents are a solid basis for further cooperation between the countries

The documents that are being prepared for the Russia-US summit shall create a solid basis for further cooperation between the two countries, told journalists Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov after a round of talks with US Secretary of State Colin Powell. According to the Russian minister, his talks with Powell focused mainly on preparations for President Bush's visit to Russia. Apparently, similar talks will be held daily to ensure that everything goes smoothly when the visit begins, said Ivanov. He added that the Russian side regarded success of the visit as an event of world-wide importance, not just as an event in Russia-US relations. "Russia and the USA are two great nuclear powers, who are both responsible for stability and security worldwide," he stressed. On his part, the US secretary of state said Ivanov and himself had had "a good discussion" while bringing into accord the wording of the documents to make sure that the English and Russian versions were identical. "We have also discussed a number of issues and documents that the presidents will be expected to sign," he added.
