Russian Foreign Minister against NATO expansion

NATO's expansion meets neither the interests of neither the alliance countries nor other states. Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov said this upon arriving to Reykjavik to participate in the session of the Russia-NATO Joint Permanent Council. According to him, it is essential to jointly address modern challenges. The document to be submitted to the Russian side stresses that "security is not dividable and we must together deal with modern challenges," Ivanov said. The Minister also stressed that "the focus of the work will be shifted to the creation of a new Russia-NATO Council." However, he stressed that Russia does not rule out the possibility of convening the Permanent Council to hold consultations on this or that issue. "The bulk of the work will be carried out by a new body - the Russia-NATO Council," said Igor Ivanov.
