Positions come closer into line at Russo-US talks

A release from the Russian Foreign Ministry's Press Department has stated that Russo-American talks in Moscow on preparations for the May Russia-USA summit have succeeded in making significant progress in bringing the two countries' positions closer together. The release states that the latest round of talks was held on May 13th to prepare documents for the forthcoming statement. The Russian inter-departmental delegation was led by Deputy Foreign Minister Georgy Mamedov, while Undersecretary of State John Bolton headed the American side. The Russian Foreign Ministry stressed that the sides had conducted "a thorough discussion of projects for a new START treaty and declarations on new strategic relations between the Russian Federation and the USA." The release reads further that "the recommendations for the preparation of documents for the Russo-American summit will be put forward for approval by the heads of the foreign policy establishments of the two countries during their forthcoming meeting in Rekjavik on May 14th."
