Presidents of Russia and Iran discuss fight against international terrorism in Ashkhabad

Changes that have taken place in the world after the September 11th events and the fight against international terrorism are being discussed at an Ashkhabad meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Mohammad Khatami. The Iranian leader said that "terror in its most sanguinary form has shown that all were equally victimised by terrorism." According to Khatami, the humankind should "further co-ordinate its efforts in combating international terrorism." He stressed that this fight should be "large-scale, multilateral and involve all countries." Mohammad Khatami also pointed to the need to solve the Palestinian problem. According to him, "the bitter events on Palestinian soil make the human kind worry." He believes that European countries should play a more active role in settling the Middle East conflict. According to the Iranian President, the problem could be solved "by returning legal rights to the Palestinian people."
