International Monetary Fund Mission Arrives In Moldova

On Wednesday a mission of the International Monetary Fund has arrived in Chisinau. The IMF permanent mission in Chisinau said that the goal of the IMF delegation's visit is to meet with the new leadership of Moldova and to examine progress in the work on the memorandum concluded between the IMF and the Moldovan government at the end of last year. IMF officials are going to discuss with Moldovan leaders their further economic policy course. The results of this visit will be a deciding factor in deblocking the next concession loan tranche of 142 million dollars, with the loan being granted to Moldova within the framework of a programme for economic growth and struggle against poverty. The first two 12-million-dollar tranches of the credit were disbursed at the end of December 2000 and in February 2001. In his utterances after taking office, Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin has more than once declared readiness to continue relations with international lending organisations, above all the International Monetary Fund.
