The United Nations' Security Council /UNSC/ deems it inadmissible that Georgia and Abkhazia have so far failed to make any headway on all key issues of a comprehensive bilateral peace settlement, reads a statement that was read out by British ambassador to the UN Jeremy Greenstock, who presides over the UNSC this April. According to Greenstock, such developments once again confirm the decisive importance of negotiations on all of the conflict's main political issues; as a matter of fact, such talks must be held as soon as possible. The UNSC recalled its previous resolutions, which, among other things, had noted the need to determine Abkhazia's political status as a component part of Georgia. Besides, the UNSC resolutely backed the intention of the UN Secretary General's special envoy for Georgia to submit a draft document that would outline specific proposals on dividing constitutional prerogatives between Tbilisi and Sukhumi.
