Ukrainian parliament contemplates Kuchma's impeachment

Ukraine's parliament will begin its Thursday session with discussion of whether or not a draft resolution concerning the possible impeachment of President Leonid Kuchma should be put on the agenda of the session. This decision, based on deputy Grigory Omelchenko's proposal, was advanced at the Monday session of the conciliatory council of parliamentary factions and groups. It was decided to set up an interim commission at the Thursday session in order to investigate Kuchma's presidency. The 449-strong parliament will need 226 votes to put the impeachment item on the agenda of the session.
