Moscow to hold session of International Olympic Committee

The 112th session of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) will be held in the Russian capital in July 2001. A new IOC President must be elected at it. Juan Antonio Samaranch who heads the Committee at the present time is leaving this post. A By the way, he was elected IOC President precisely in Moscow in summer 1980. The participants in the session will also have to decide on the city which will host the summer Olympic Games-2008. The activities in Moscow will be financed by the Olympic Committee of Russia from the money allocated for these purposes by the IOC, the government of the Russian Federation and the Moscow government. The preparation of commercials on Moscow is underway, and applications for live telecasts of a number of events are being accepted. In the main the session will be held at the House of Trade Unions. The formal opening ceremony will be held on July 12 at The Bolshoi Theatre where the Giselle ballet will also be staged. The Moscow Mayor's Office is now choosing firms to which the decorative design of the main thoroughfares of the capital, of the Sheremetyevo international airport, and of the places to accommodate the participants and honorary guests of the session will be assigned.
