Russia proposes that the United Nations should use the experience of the Commonwealth in the fight against terrorism

Moscow points out a special importance of establishing close cooperation between the Anti-Terrorist Committee of the United Nations Security Council and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). As the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported, when the fight against international terrorism was discussed at the UN Security Council the Russian side drew its attention to the fact that "a great experience in the fight against terrorism" had been accumulated by the Commonwealth. Moscow regards the activity of the Anti-Terrorist Committee as "a substantial contribution to the anti-terrorist efforts of the international community under the aegis the United Nations, the Russian Foreign Ministry said. The ministry underscores that Russia, also as the co-chairman of the Committee, highly appreciates the activity of the UN Security Council in the anti-terrorist sphere and will continue to make a practical contribution to ensuring its efficiency on the basis of the UN Charter and the norms of international law." At the end of the discussions the UN Security Council considered practical aspects of the activity of the Committee which was set up on the basis of Resolution 1373 and is called upon to control the fulfilment by the states of their commitments in the anti-terrorist sphere
