Opium smugglers on Tajik-Afghan border

Russian border guards prevented on Wednesday morning the attempt of armed smugglers from Afghanistan to illegally cross the Tajik-Afghan border. The press service of the Russian border-guards in Tajikistan reported that four unidentified persons who penetrated the Tajik territory from the Afghan islands of the Amu-Darya river were discovered on the plain section of the Moskovsky border detachment. When the attempt was made to detain them fire was opened from the Afghan side. During the battle one trespasser was killed, and the rest, using the cover of fire from Afghanistan, threw away a part of their cargo and hid. When the Russian borderguards inspected the area near the crossing they discovered three bags with raw opium with a total weight of 84 kg.
