Estonia Gains Finland's Support for Her EU Membership Negotiations

Finland supports Estonia in her efforts to gain a more favourable stand in negotiating her EU membership. As Finnish television reported, when meting his newly elected Estonian colleague Siim Kallas, Finnish Prime Minister Paavo Lipponen said that Estonia needed to set agricultural quotas that would reflect present-day reality. The situation has changed since the beginning of the nineties, when all agricultural production data were low due to the economic crisis that followed the break up of the USSR. Mr. Lipponen stressed that his opinion is based on Finland's first-hand experience gained during extensive negotiations with the EU on agricultural matters. The meeting between Mr. Lipponen and Mr. Kallas took place during the latter's visit to Finland.
