Moscow Believes That A Prospect Is Opening For Reinvigorating The Activity Of The Organisation For Security And Cooperation In Europe

Moscow believes that today, taking into account many latest events, a perspective is opening to reinvigorate the activity of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), said Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Igor Ivanov after the negotiations with his Romanian colleague Mircea Geoana. Igor Ivanov underscored that Moscow is seriously preparing for the coming session of the OSCE Council of Foreign Ministers which will take place at the beginning of December in Bucharest."We would like the Foreign Ministers to work out a common understanding," said the Russian minister, "as to the spheres in which the Organisation can be the most effective." From the point of view of Moscow, this sphere is security. Igor Ivanov explained what he had in mind: joint fight against terrorism, organised crime and drug trafficking - that is, against those challenges and threats that all the countries face, and which can be combated only jointly. In his turn, the Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs, who is now OSCE chairman-in-office, said: Romania believes that the contribution of Russia to the coming session of the OSCE Council of Foreign Ministers and to the activity of this Organisation in general is decisive. According to him, great changes have taken place in the world after September 11. "We are glad that the development of relations between Russia, NATO, the USA and the European Union contributes to making the activity of the OSCE successful," said Mircea Geoana.
