Armenia Announces Interest In Stabilization Of Situation In Georgia

Armenia is extremely interested in prompt stabilization of situation in Georgia, said Armenian Prime Minister Andranik Markaryan. "Deterioration of Georgia's domestic and foreign situation may cut Armenia off the only road linking it with Europe and CIS countries," Markaryan stressed. Armenian Prime Minister also expressed his concern about further aggravation of relations between the Armenian community living in Georgia's Javakh district and the Georgian authorities. Andranik Markaryan believes that "the Georgian authorities are trying to exert pressure on the local Armenian population and are trampling upon their elementary rights". Georgia will soon hold elections to bodies of local government. In this connection, Georgian legislators have recently passed a law that "further deteriorates the position of the Armenian community", Markaryan stressed.
