Russia, Canada Note Common Approaches To Combating International Terrorism

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chretien have spoken out in favour of establishing such a regime in Afghanistan that would make a threat to its neighbours and the world community impossible from the point of view of international terrorism. The leaders of the two countries states this at their meeting in Shanghai on October 20 in the context of the APEC summit. They also pointed out the common approaches of the two countries to the fight against international terrorism. Vladimir Putin and Jean Chretien expressed satisfaction with the positive dynamics of the bilateral relations, pointing out the good level of the development of the political dialogue. Nevertheless, the sides opined, the trade and economic relations between the two countries are somewhat lagging behind. In this connection they pointed out the great importance of the coming visit to Moscow by the Canadian Prime Minister and a large group of Canadian businessmen early next year, during which the sides will also discuss investment projects.
