Closure Of Russian Military Facilities In Cuba And Vietnam Aimed At Including Russia Into World Security System

The decision of the Russian leadership to close the military facilities in Cuba and Vietnam is a coherent policy aimed first and foremost at including Russia into the world security system, according to Alexander Kalina, member of the Defence committee of the Federation Council (Russian Parliament's upper house). He underscored that after Russia had supported the US-led anti-terrorist operation in Afghanistan, it "fought together with the whole world community against one evil - terrorism". "Feasible prospects of Russia's close cooperation with the US and other countries in many avenues have taken shape, and our decision to close bases abroad is, doubtless, a right move", the Russian senator said. According to him, one could already say that Russia is being entirely included into the world security system. Kalina noted at the same time that Russia should not neglect other countries' security, while closing its bases. This is especially true for Cuba.
