General of the Army Anatoly Kvashnin, Chief of General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces discussed the situation in Afghanistan with Tajik Defence Minister Colonel-General Sherali Khairullayev in Dushanbe Thursday. Colonel Yuri Perminov, Commander of the 201st Russian motor-rifle division quartered in Tajikistan attended the meeting, a source in the Tajik Defence Ministry told RIA Novosti. The negotiators examined plans of intensifying cooperation in the Tajik-Afghan border protection. All the meetings and negotiations are held behind closed doors and there is no information on the further programme of the visit of the Chief of General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces to Tajikistan, the source noted.
