Sudan, Jordan: Public Demonstrates Against U.s. Action In Afghanistan

A public demonstration in Khartoum, Sudanese capital, gathered more than eight thousand--mostly students--in protest against US armed action in Afghanistan. Women's, youth and cultural leagues were represented. The demonstrators were burning US flags and President Bush's portraits to shouts demanding Afghan airraids stopped. Community activists called Kofi Annan, UN Secretary-General, to oppose the raids in a message they passed to the head of the United Nations' office in Sudan. A protest demonstration is reported from Jordan, too. It involved an approximate 250 Irbid university students. The police blocked the campus but did not disperse the protesters.
