Russian Navy Confirms That Two Cruise Missiles Fell Into Sea

The Pacific Fleet Navy confirms the fact that two cruise missiles fell into the sea. Alexander Kosolapov, aide to the Pacific Fleet Commander said Wednesday in an interview with RIA Novosti that cruise missiles had been launched on a sea target in the Okhotskoye Sea during the regular exercises held in the area of Kamchatka in early September. The target was hit, but one of the Granit cruise missiles undershot the target and fell into the sea on the depth of over 2,000 m. According to Kosolapov, an experimental launch of a Progress-type cruise missile was performed some time before the exercises. "The missile fell into the sea on a large depth, where it is up to now," Kosolapov said. The senior navy official underscored that the missiles were "of no threat to the environment, since they have no warheads."
