Sources In Pentagon Confirm Ac-130 Special-purpose Aircraft Was Used In Night Attack On Kandahar

CNN has cited a highly placed Pentagon official as saying that an aircraft from a commandos' base at Hurlburt Field, Florida, was used in an air attack on Taliban positions in Kandahar. The Fox-5 TV company, also citing a Pentagon source, reported a special operation in the area of Kandahar, the stronghold and main base of the Taliban regime. The company said the AC-130 aircraft have been used to support special group 160, an elite helicopter unit of U.S. commandos. Pentagon officials have declined to comment on these reports, saying only that helicopters were not planned to be used on Monday. Even if the reports about the first operation by U.S. commandos are true, the Pentagon, as its officials said earlier, will not admit that such an operation was carried out. Earlier reports said U.S. and British commandos may begin active ground operations in the middle of this week.
