Presidents Of Russia And Poland Intend To Discuss Problems Of Combating Terrorism

In the course of the Russian-Polish negotiations in Moscow the sides intend to discuss cooperation between the two countries in fighting terrorism. This was reported by the sources close to the Russian-Polish negotiation process. Apart from that, according to them, it is necessary to concentrate the sides' attention on searching for "a common meeting-ground" in questions of the architecture of European security. In connection with this the sources underscored that Russia did not regard Poland's membership in NATO as "an insuperable obstacle for cooperating in the spheres of mutual interests." It is also planned to pay a considerable attention at the negotiations to cooperation between the two countries in the Kaliningrad direction, the sources noted. According to them, Moscow highly rates the latest public statements by Kwasniewski in which he pointed out that Poland "is Russia's Ally No. 1 in preserving! ! the status quo of the Kaliningrad Region," as well as in integrating it into a cooperation in the Baltic area. Moscow and Warsaw, pointed out the sources in the conversation with RIA Novosti, are interested in the maximum use of the existing possibilities for expanding contacts and cooperation between Kaliningrad and the north-eastern provinces of Poland. Having pointed out that Poland is one of the leading partners of Russia in trade and economic spheres, the sources pointed to considerable possibilities for expanding cooperation on a bilateral and a multilateral levels in Russia's export of energy carriers, taking into consideration Poland's key transport position in Europe. This concerns, in particular, the export of natural gas to Western Europe. In the opinion of Moscow, Russia and Poland "are capable to make jointly an appreciable contribution to ensuring Europe's energy security."
