Eduard Malofeyev resigned from the post of head national football coach. He cited the failure to accomplish the task set the national team - to qualify for the final tournament of the world football championship as the cause of his resignation. "I am honest and decent enough to be fully aware of the fact that as a coach I lost the qualification cycle", Malofeyev stated at the press conference specially devoted to this question. "That is why I must quit". Belarus has lost a chance to go to South Korea and Japan after its defeat in the concluding game by the selected team of Wales in Cardiff. As a result, Malofeyev's charges took only third place in the 5th European qualification group behind Poland and Ukraine. Malofeyev informed the newsmen that he had signed an one-year contract with the Dynamo Minsk club. Precisely with this team the coach won the title of football champion of the USSR in 1982.
