Construction Of The First Bridge Across Russian-Chinese Border River Argun Completed

Russia and China have completed the construction of the first bridge across the Russian-Chinese border river Argun. According to official Chinese sources, the joint project was launched on April 22, 2001 in accordance with an intergovernmental agreement reached between the two countries in February, 2001. Construction was completed by October 1, which is a national Chinese holiday. The bridge Shiwei-Olochi, which is more than 310 meters long and 5.1 meters wide, is the first bridge across the border river to be open the year round. Before it was constructed, cargos could be transported across the ice-covered river only in winter.
