Romania Highly Assesses Reformative Actions Of Russian President Vladimir Putin

On Friday Cozmin Gushu, Secretary General of the Romanian governing Social Democratic Party stated in his interview to RIA Novosti that Romania "highly assessed reformative actions " of Russian President Vladimir Putin and "considered Russia as a strong business partner with whom it was possible to develop mutually beneficial relations". The delegation headed by him was visiting Russia from 10 till 12 October on the invitation from the pro-governmental "Unity" party. This was the first visit of such high-ranking Romanian party leaders to Russia in the last decade. In the course of the visit the Romanian guests had meetings with representatives of the Russian President's administration, office of the government and leadership of the "Unity" faction in the State Duma (the lower house of the Parliament). According to the head of the Romanian governing party, his country "devoted special significance to the position of the Russian President" in the fight against terrorism which, according to him, "was very helpful to the international community". Cozmin Gushu reported that this subject was considered, in particular, at the meeting of the Romanian delegation with the State Duma "Unity" faction leaders. He stated that Romanian and Russian politicians discussed establishment of a contact group between parliamentarians of the Social Democratic Party and "Unity". Cozmin Gushu indicated that the parties planned to sign a protocol on cooperation between the two parties to more clearly define areas of interaction. Gushu stated that "they thought that in the nearest future they would be able to determine specific elements which would allow both countries to hold productive meetings at presidential and governmental levels".
